Joe Coker

I am a multi-skilled Theatre Technical Manager with over twenty years professional experience in Sound, Lighting, Automation and Stage Management in the world’s most technologically advanced theatres.

After graduating from Salford University with an Honours degree in Popular Music and Recording I developed my skills from a Sound Engineer to Senior Production Manager onboard Cunard’s prestigious Queen Mary 2 ocean liner. Having worked on literally thousands of shows with celebrities such as James Taylor, Midge Ure, Ruthie Henshall and Sting, I bring a wealth of technical knowledge back home to Take Part.

Producing countless shows night after night with such fabulous international teams of highly trained technicians and performers is an extremely rewarding and enriching environment to spend your career, and for some their whole life. However, having stepped back from the professional scene; working with children and sharing their achievements, passion, joy, hard work and determination against sometimes immeasurable personal difficulties, is the most exhilarating and overwhelming emotion that I find hard to put into words. You will often find me at the back of the room in tears after watching a performance from a young child who I met six months ago with no voice, no skills and no confidence, who has achieved so many skills through opportunities at Take Part that will change their lives forever.
