Headshot of Rachel Thomas

Rachel runs our new Nurture Zone at Take Part New Mills on Saturdays. This ‘break out’ room is a wonderful resource for children who may feel overwhelmed and may need a creative outlet in a quieter safe space. Rachel provides a therapeutic and holistic approach to Creative Arts with a child-led approach to learning.

Rachel is a therapeutic parent to Sebastian and a qualified Art and Design Teacher with over 13 years experience teaching across all age ranges, both in the UK and internationally. She has taught Art & Design in pupil referral units, secondary schools, and with home educated children.

Rachel currently runs weekly after school art clubs at local primary schools, and provides specialist art workshops up to GCSE and A level. She works closely with SEND departments within a variety of schools to provide differentiated tasks for all. She specialises in a variety of different mediums such as fine art, graphics, photography and textiles.

Rachel has a deep understanding of mindfulness in Art:

“Art is the expression or application of human creativity and imagination. Whether it’s a poem, a doodle, or a musical, art – in all its forms – captures ideas, conveys emotion, and unpacks experiences and reveals perspectives reflective of individual and collective circumstances. I love watching children grow and become more confident in themselves, I do all I can to encourage, nurture, motivate and inspire young people.”
