A bit about the show...

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Character Descriptions

Below we have the music and lyrics for all of our principal roles where your child can decide which roles they would like to audition for and practice at home.

PLEASE NOTE – All auditionees will be required to sing “When You’re An Addams” as well as their characters specific song/script.

Auditionees can be considered for more than one role but will only be required to do one audition – so choose the favourite and just let us know during the audition who else you would like us to keep in mind for.

We also would like to highlight that children/young people of any gender can audition for any of the principal roles and the production is a fully inclusive show.  We won’t be changing the gender of the role or the name of the character or the pronouns associated with the character, as this would be a violation of copyright.

Please note that there are other supporting roles that are not listed below, all auditonees will also be considered for these roles. Keep an eye out on our socials for information about some of these other super roles.

For your video recording please use the backing track provided, not the vocal track.

Please perform the musical numbers, using acting through song suitable for the character – don’t just sing the song be the character!

All auditions (including Ancestors)

If you are auditioning for any part, you will be required to perform “When You’re An Addams” in character, as this is the shows opening number where we introduce the audience to the characters,
so it is essential that you can act your way through the song, as well as sing your socks off!

If you are wanting to audition for a main character (other than Ancestors), then you will also be required to sing the audition song specific to that character as well as “When You’re An Addams”.

Morticia Addams (Year 7+)

A demure, strong willed woman – the strength of the family.

An easy comedic actress with a dry wit, who feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. She is glamorous; witty and although it may seem that Gomez has the most say in family dealings, Morticia’s influence over him proves that she’s really the one in charge. She is the real head of the family and fears her daughter and her aren’t as close as they used to be. Morticia sees only the good in everyone, and comes off as wiser for doing so.

She is a strong mover (tango skills a plus!) and an equally strong singer as she has multiple solos throughout the show.

Morticia Script Just Around The Corner lyrics Just Around The Corner (up to 1.07) - Vocal track Just Around The Corner (up to 1.07) - Backing track

Gomez Addams (Year 7+)

A suave man of Spanish descent who adores his wife and children and takes immense pride in being an Addams. Gomez finds himself trapped between his daughter and his wife, being
forced to hide Wednesday’s big secret from Morticia. He has great comedic timing and is a strong dancer.

Spanish accent is a plus!

Wednesday Addams (Year 6+)

Gothic big sister Wednesday who has her father’s heart and her mother’s sensibility falls in love with a “normal” boy who she brings home to meet the family.

Wednesday is trying to balance her relationships with “strange” family with that of her new love and his “normal” family.
Wednesday showcases compassion, a bit of stubbornness and strong will. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love – and will do just about anything to get her way!

Her dry sense of humour is reminiscent of her mother, but sometimes gives way into the manic episodes that show her humanity.

She has a strong belt.

Grandma (Year 5+)

Grandmama Addams is a kooky elder, a feisty 102-year-old woman.  Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma.
This disrespectful older figure of the family is the mother of Gomez… she willingly helps with the dishes, cheats at solitaire and is foolishly good-natured.
Grandma acts as the wise, if sometimes wacky, sage of the family. She helps Pugsley through his problems, and has an “interesting” sense of humour.

This is is a great role for a comedic actor with strong acting through song qualities as this role requires a high level of physicality.

To audition for Grandma, please submit “When You’re An Addams” and the below script.

Lucas Beineke (Year 7 +)

A hopeful romantic and the son of Mal and Alice Beineke, Lucas is the ‘average’ young man who has fallen in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her.
The epitome of the love- torn teenager, Lucas experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family.
He writes poetry and appears to be a traditionalist, but he harbours an unexpected crazy and dark side, and appreciates the macabre… which is why he gets along so well with the Addams Family.

Lucas has multiple solos throughout the show, a rock/pop vocal is ideal for this role.
Lucas Script One Normal Night - Song lyrics One Normal Night (from 1.30 - 2.08) - Vocal Track One Normal Night (from 1.30 - 2.08) - Backing Track

Mal and Alice Beineke (Year 7 +)

  • Alice – Charming housewife comedic actress and mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. Alice is a quirky female who often speaks in rhymes and falls prey to the latest fads or quick fixes to her family or personal life.

  • Mal – The uptight and father of Lucas and cold-shouldered husband to Alice, cynical Mal meets the Addams with scepticism. He finds the Addams to be too bizarre for his liking and cannot fathom being related to them.

Please submit a video with “When You’re An Addams” and the below script as your audition for either/both of these parts.

Uncle Fester (Year 5 +)

That one awkward family member who serves as the musical’s narrator. He’s larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence.
Fester has great comedic timing and sings multiple solos throughout the show.
Fester Script The Moon and Me Lyrics The Moon and Me ( until 1.43) - Vocal Track The Moon and Me ( until 1.43) - Backing Track

Pugsley Addams (Year 3 +)

Wednesday’s little brother, Pugsley is a danger-seeking, charming, funny, boy – who loves being tortured by his sister.
Wednesday’s relationship with Lucas has left Pugsley with separation anxiety. He wants to ensure he won’t lose Wednesday to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands.
An energetic monster of a boy… and a dedicated troublemaker.

Pugsley sings solo multiple times throughout the show and would ideally be cast as someone with a higher vocal that can belt.
Pugsley Script What If Lyrics What If - Vocal Track What If - Backing Track

Featured Ancestors – Open to Year 3 +

Ancestors of the Addams family now live on ‘the other side’, but are summoned once a year to come celebrate with the family. They help tell the story, offer advice and interact with the characters throughout the play.

All Ancestors will be assigned their own “character” with a background story, and therefore have their own cameo character to play.

Examples of the Ancestor characters are Bride, Groom, Stewardess, Saloon Girl, Flapper, Pilgrim, Caveman, Cavewoman, Soldier, Sailor, etc.

The ensemble has a very important role in The Addams Family.

There are 6 featured Ancestors in the production, all that have solo lines to sing and speak and are featured heavily throughout the entire show.

Please note, the casting team will consider your audition for all roles listed below, but it is useful for you to let us know your preferred one.

Please submit a self-tape singing “When You’re An Addams” (resources found at the start of the page).

  • Lurch – A man of few words, Lurch is the Addams Family butler. His unmistakable commanding presence is accented by grunts, moans and deliberate movement. Must have great non-verbal story-telling abilities (think: facial expressions and sound).

  • Cousin “It” – Will appear occasionally throughout the musical during family gatherings. Great part for someone who wants a stepping stone towards playing a principal role. Will double up as a company member.

  • Thing – Will be performing “just as a hand”, we may have to perform a little bit of magic with this part! You will still be singing as this part though and will double up as a company member.
