🎶🐠 Every child will be given a singing and acting piece to prepare for their audition! However, if your child would prefer not to sing a solo, they can focus on the acting and be considered for a non-singing role – everyone gets a chance to shine! 💫

All auditions will be considered for a variety of parts, but if your child has a dream role in mind, be sure to highlight their preferences on the day or in their self-tape intro! 🎭✨

🐠✨ Dive into an Unforgettable Adventure with Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr. – Exclusively for Our Stage 2 Members! ✨🌊

Get ready to make waves in this musical spectacular, inspired by Pixar’s beloved classic! With a fin-tastic score by award-winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen, Coco), this show is packed with heart, humor, and unforgettable tunes! 🎶🎭

🐟 Meet Marlin – a cautious but loving clownfish dad – and his adventurous son, Nemo, who dreams of exploring beyond the reef. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin must brave the open ocean to rescue him. Along the way, he teams up with some unforgettable underwater friends:

💙 Dory – the hilariously forgetful yet endlessly optimistic blue tang!
🐢 Crush – the laid-back sea turtle who surfs the EAC like a pro!
🐠 The Tank Gang – a quirky crew with big plans and even bigger personalities!

Character Descriptions

Below we have the music and lyrics for all of our principal roles where your child can decide which roles they would like to audition for and practice at home.

We also would like to highlight that children/young people of any gender can audition for any of the principal roles and the production is a fully inclusive show.  We won’t be changing the gender of the role or the name of the character or the pronouns associated with the character, as this would be a violation of copyright. 

Please note that there are other supporting roles that are not listed below, all auditonees will also be considered for these roles. Keep an eye out on our socials for information about some of these other super roles.

For your video recording please use the backing track provided, not the vocal track. 

Please perform the musical numbers, using acting through song suitable for the character – don’t just sing the song be the character!

Marlin – Open to Year 3-6

Character Breakdown – Marlin

  • Personality: An overprotective, anxious, yet deeply loving father. Marlin’s world was shattered after the tragic loss of his wife, Coral, which made him fearful of the ocean’s dangers. He clings to control and prefers the safety of his anemone over the unpredictable world outside.
  • Character Arc: Through his incredible journey to find Nemo, Marlin learns to let go of his fears, trust others, and embrace the unknown. His growth is one of the most powerful elements of the story.
  • Stage Presence: This role requires an actor who can balance comedic timing with deep emotional moments. Marlin has a strong character journey and needs a performer who can express both his nervous energy and his ultimate transformation into a brave, trusting father.

What We’re Looking For:

Strong acting ability – Must portray Marlin’s nervous energy, dry humour, and emotional growth.
Excellent vocal skills – Marlin has several key songs, including “Just Keep Swimming” and “Go With the Flow” (duet with Crush). The role requires clear storytelling through song.
Good comedic timing – Marlin’s anxieties often lead to humorous moments, especially in his dynamic with Dory.
Emotional depth – Must convincingly show Marlin’s transformation from overprotective and fearful to courageous and trusting.
Strong stamina & stage presence – Marlin is in almost every scene, carrying the story forward. The actor must be comfortable with a physically active role and interacting with a variety of characters.

This is a principal role with a large amount of dialogue, songs, and movement. The performer must be able to connect with both comedic and heartfelt moments, making the audience feel Marlin’s worries, love, and ultimate growth.

Dory – Open to Year 3-6

Character Breakdown – Dory

  • Personality: A bubbly, free-spirited, and ever-positive Pacific regal blue tang with short-term memory loss. Dory has a heart of gold and an unwavering belief in others, even when things seem hopeless. Despite her forgetfulness, she is loyal, kind, and brave, teaching Marlin an important lesson about trust, resilience, and going with the flow.
  • Character Arc: While Dory may appear scattered, she is wise in her own way. She helps Marlin loosen up and embrace life’s adventures. Her optimism and unshakable faith in the impossible make her one of the most beloved characters in the show.

What We’re Looking For:

Strong comedic skills – Dory is funny, quirky, and full of energy. We need an actor who can deliver fast-paced dialogue, comedic timing, and physical humor.
Excellent vocal ability – Dory sings some of the show’s most memorable songs, including “Just Keep Swimming” and “Fish Are Friends, Not Food”. We need a strong singer who can bring energy and clarity to her numbers.
Big personality & improvisational feel – Dory’s character thrives on spontaneity. The performer should be playful, expressive, and engaging, making the audience fall in love with her charm and wacky nature.
Emotional range – Though she is comedic, Dory has tender and heartfelt moments, especially in her connection with Marlin. We need someone who can balance humor with sincerity.
Physical presence – This role requires high energy, movement, and interaction with other characters, especially Marlin. The performer must be comfortable with expressive, animated movement on stage.

This is a principal role requiring strong acting, comedic timing, and vocal skills. The performer must be able to bring warmth, humor, and heart to the role, making Dory both hilarious and deeply lovable.

Nemo – Open to Year 3-6

Character Breakdown – Nemo

  • Personality: Nemo is a brave, adventurous, and strong-willed young fish who is eager to prove himself to his overprotective father, Marlin. Despite being born with a smaller fin (his ‘lucky fin’), Nemo refuses to let it hold him back. He is independent, inquisitive, and full of heart, though he sometimes acts impulsively when frustrated with his father’s constant worrying.
  • Character Arc: Nemo’s journey is about self-discovery and resilience. He learns to navigate a dangerous and unpredictable ocean, proving that he is capable, resourceful, and courageous. His story is one of determination and growth, as he discovers that being small doesn’t mean being weak.

What We’re Looking For:

Strong acting ability – Nemo needs to capture a mix of youthful excitement, frustration, and vulnerability. The performer must show both confidence and moments of fear or doubt.
Great vocal ability – Nemo sings some of the show’s most emotional and important songs, including “Just Keep Swimming” and “Not My Dad”. We need a clear and expressive singer with good storytelling through song.
Energetic & expressive – Nemo is a high-energy, physically active role. The performer should be comfortable with movement, quick transitions, and emotional expressiveness.
Emotional depth – Nemo has key emotional moments, especially when he realizes the dangers of the ocean, his love for his father, and his desire to prove himself. The actor must be able to convey both vulnerability and courage.
Strong stage presence – Nemo is the heart of the story. The performer must connect with the audience, build strong relationships with Marlin and the Tank Gang, and bring the character’s journey to life.

This is a principal role requiring a young actor with great energy, singing ability, and emotional depth. The performer must bring Nemo’s adventurous spirit, determination, and heartwarming journey to life.

Bruce – Open to Year 3-6

Character Breakdown – Bruce

  • Personality: Bruce is a larger-than-life, well-mannered, yet slightly terrifying great white shark who is trying his best to overcome his natural instincts. As the leader of the Fish-Friendly Sharks Support Group, Bruce is determined to prove that “Fish are friends, not food”—but struggles to keep his cravings under control. He is charming, booming, and comedic, but when the scent of blood sets him off, he becomes dangerous and unpredictable.
  • Character Arc: Bruce starts off as a friendly and composed leader, but his inner struggle between being a reformed fish-eater and his natural predatory instincts creates a hilarious and high-stakes moment in the show.

What We’re Looking For:

Commanding stage presence – Bruce needs to own the stage with a big, powerful energy. We need an actor who can be both charming and menacing in equal measure.
Great comedic timing – This role has some of the funniest moments in the show. The performer should be comfortable with physical comedy, larger-than-life expressions, and well-timed delivery.
Strong vocal ability – Bruce sings the iconicFish Are Friends, Not Food” and needs a bold, booming voice with a strong comedic delivery.
Physical expressiveness – Bruce is a big character, often portrayed with exaggerated movements and powerful gestures. The performer must be comfortable with physical acting and bringing a larger-than-life personality to the role.
Ability to shift energy – Bruce switches from friendly to terrifying in an instant when his shark instincts kick in. We need a performer who can make that sudden shift feel dramatic, funny, and thrilling for the audience.

This is a featured role with high-energy comedic moments and a powerful musical number. The performer must be able to balance Bruce’s charm, humor, and underlying menace while commanding the stage.

Crush – Open to Year 3-6

Character Breakdown – Crush

  • Personality: Crush is the epitome of cool—a laid-back, easygoing, and super wise sea turtle who helps Marlin learn to “go with the flow.” He speaks in a chill surfer-dude dialect, making him instantly lovable. Crush is the ultimate mentor, offering Marlin advice in the most relaxed way possible. His positive outlook on life and trust in the natural course of things help Marlin loosen up and embrace adventure.
  • Character Arc: While Crush doesn’t have a dramatic transformation, his role is pivotal in teaching Marlin an important lesson about trust, growth, and letting go. His energy is infectious, and he lights up the stage with his charisma and wisdom.

What We’re Looking For:

Fantastic stage presence – Crush owns the stage with charisma and charm. We need an actor who can engage the audience with humor, warmth, and an effortlessly cool vibe.
Strong comedic timing – Crush is hilarious in a totally chill way. The performer should be able to deliver funny lines with ease, making the audience fall in love with his personality.
Great vocal ability – Crush leads the high-energy number “Go With the Flow”, which requires a strong, fun, and free-spirited singing style. The performer should be able to sing with confidence and groove with the music.
Natural movement and energy – Crush is fluid, relaxed, and always in motion. The actor should have a good sense of rhythm and physicality, making Crush’s movement effortlessly cool and fun.
Ability to interact with the ensemble – Crush is a leader to the baby turtles (Squirt & friends) and interacts closely with Marlin and Dory. The actor should be comfortable with playful interactions and quick-paced dialogue.

This is a featured role with high-energy comedic moments and one of the show’s most fun musical numbers. The performer must be able to bring Crush’s positive, easygoing personality to life with humor, charm, and warmth.

🐟 Gill – A determined and inspiring moorish idol who leads the Tank Gang. He dreams of escaping the aquarium and mentors Nemo. Use the audition material for Gill below.

🦤 Nigel – A sharp-eyed pelican who is a friend to the Tank Gang and helps Marlin and Dory navigate Sydney Harbour. Use the Gill audition material.

 


Secondary Featured Roles (Smaller Speaking/Singing Roles)

🐡 Bubbles – A yellow tang who is obsessed with bubbles and gets excited whenever they appear in the tank. Use the Gill audition material.

🎈 Bloat – A friendly and supportive blowfish who puffs up when startled but always helps keep spirits high in the Tank Gang. Use the Gill audition material.

Peach – A wise and down-to-earth starfish who gives advice and keeps an eye on everything happening in the tank. Use the Gill audition material.

😖 Gurgle – A nervous royal gramma fish who is terrified of germs and anything unfamiliar in the aquarium. Use the Gill audition material.

🎓 Professor Ray – A cheerful and knowledgeable stingray who teaches Nemo and the other reef kids about the ocean. Use the Gill audition material.

🦈 Chum – One of Bruce’s shark friends, energetic and slightly dim-witted, trying his best to stick to a vegetarian lifestyle. Use the Gill audition material.

Anchor – Another of Bruce’s shark friends, a hammerhead shark who follows the “Fish Are Friends, Not Food” mantra. Use the Gill audition material.

🐢 Squirt – The playful and fearless young sea turtle who loves riding the ocean currents with his dad, Crush. Use the Gill audition material.
