Robyn Fisher

Technical Assistant (Mentee)

Headshot of Robyn Fisher

Hi, I’m Robyn, and being part of Dare to Dream has been one of the most exciting and important experiences I’ve ever had. I joined the project as part of the tech team, and it was the first time I’d ever been able to try technical theatre properly. Learning the software, figuring things out, and making the show run smoothly has made me realise that this is something I’d love to do as a career in the future.

My favourite part of the whole project was definitely learning all the technical equipment. It made me feel excited, inspired, and proud to be trusted with something so important. One moment I’ll never forget is realising that this entire show was created and run completely by young people — we did a lot of it ourselves, and that felt amazing.

Dare to Dream has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. I’ve had to work with people of all different ages, including lots of children with special needs, which meant a lot of problem-solving along the way. Doing that has really helped me grow in confidence, teamwork and communication. I’ve discovered that I’m capable of far more than I thought.

To me, “daring to dream” means not being afraid to be who you are, and going for goals you might have held back from before. This project has helped me express my creativity, especially through creative ideas and design — and it’s made me more creative at home too.

My dream now is to study costume theatre and technical theatre design at university. Thanks to this project, I feel like I’ve had a real insight into what that might look like in the future, and I’m excited to keep going. My next big goal is to get great grades in Art and Media at GCSE.

Take Part has made me feel truly included, supported, and understood. I’ve learned that confidence comes from knowing what I’m doing, and I’ve met people who make me feel like I belong. Everyone here is kind, a “good kind of manic!”  It’s a place where people can see what I’m capable of, which I don’t always feel at school.

If I had one piece of advice for future mentees, it would be:
Don’t be nervous — it’s like one big happy family.

And to everyone who made this project possible:
Thank you for showing me what is possible, and where I fit in.
