🎤 How it Works: 🎭 Every child will be given a singing and acting piece to prepare for their audition! However, if your child would prefer not to sing a solo, they can focus on the acting and be considered for a non-singing role – everyone gets a chance to shine! 💫

💡 Want a specific role? Let us know! All auditions will be considered for a variety of parts, but if your child has a dream role in mind, be sure to highlight their preferences on the day or in their self-tape intro! 🎶✨

Join us for a heavenly musical experience filled with laughter, soulful singing, and high-energy performances! Based on the beloved film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act Jr. brings together dazzling disco, gospel-infused melodies, and an inspiring story of sisterhood and self-discovery. 🎭💜

🎤 Meet Deloris Van Cartier – a bold and ambitious disco diva whose life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses a crime. Placed in protective custody at a struggling convent, Deloris must trade in her sequins for a habit – but she soon transforms the nuns’ quiet choir into a powerhouse of joy, attracting attention from the outside world… and the criminals chasing her!

Character Descriptions

Below we have the music and lyrics for all of our principal roles where your child can decide which roles they would like to audition for and practice at home.

We also would like to highlight that children/young people of any gender can audition for any of the principal roles and the production is a fully inclusive show.  We won’t be changing the gender of the role or the name of the character or the pronouns associated with the character, as this would be a violation of copyright. 

Please note that there are other supporting roles that are not listed below, all auditonees will also be considered for these roles. Keep an eye out on our socials for information about some of these other super roles.

For your video recording please use the backing track provided, not the vocal track. 

Please perform the musical numbers, using acting through song suitable for the character – don’t just sing the song be the character!

Deloris Van Cartier Open to All

Character Breakdown Deloris Van Cartier

Personality: Bold, confident, and full of life, Deloris is an aspiring singer with a big voice and even bigger dreams. She’s glamorous, sassy, and used to being the center of attention. However, when forced into hiding in a convent, she learns the true meaning of friendship, teamwork, and belonging.

Character Arc: Deloris starts as self-absorbed and independent but grows into a caring leader who inspires the nuns to believe in themselves. She ultimately discovers that there’s more to life than fame and fortune.

Stage Presence: This is a demanding lead role that requires a strong singer with great stage presence, comedic timing, and emotional depth. Deloris needs to carry the energy of the show, balancing humor, diva-like confidence, and heartfelt moments.

What We’re Looking For:
✔ Strong vocal ability – Requires a big, confident voice with a good belt range.
✔ Excellent stage presence – Deloris commands attention in every scene.
✔ Strong comedic timing – Must deliver witty one-liners and dynamic interactions with the nuns.

Tina, Nina, Elle and Michelle Open to All

Character Breakdown

Personality: Sassy, confident, and full of attitude, Tina, Nina, Elle, and Michelle are Deloris’s glamorous backup singers from her nightclub act. They love the spotlight and thrive on performing, bringing energy and flair to every moment they’re on stage. These roles are perfect for performers with strong voices and a sense of fun.

Character Arc: Though they don’t have a major storyline, they set the tone for Deloris’s world before she enters the convent. Their stylish, diva-like presence contrasts with the quiet, structured convent life, emphasizing Deloris’s journey. They will also join the nun ensemble later in the show.

Stage Presence: These roles require strong singers who can handle harmonies, movement, and attitude. They should be able to belt out powerful vocals while maintaining synchronised energy as a girl group.

What We’re Looking For:
✔ Strong vocalists – Must be confident singers with good harmony skills.
✔ Stage presence & confidence – Need to own the stage with a bold and flashy performance style.
✔ Good movement skills – Must be comfortable with simple, coordinated choreography as a group.
✔ Character expression – Should be able to deliver playful, fun performances with great facial expressions and energy.
✔ Optional ensemble involvement – These roles may double as nuns later in the show, so versatility is a plus!

These are fun and vibrant featured roles that allow performers to show off their vocal strength, stage presence, and performance charisma. Ideal for those who love to sing, move, and shine!

Curtis Jackson Open to All

Character Breakdown Curtis Jackson

Personality: A dangerous and smooth-talking gangster, Curtis is charming but ruthless. He is obsessed with finding Deloris and will stop at nothing to get her back.

Character Arc: Curtis remains the primary villain of the show, showing no growth—just determination to get what he wants.

Stage Presence: Needs a strong, confident actor with a commanding stage presence who can balance intimidation with charm.

What We’re Looking For:
✔ Strong acting ability – Must convincingly play a cold, calculating villain.
✔ Stage presence – Needs to exude power and confidence.
✔ Non-singing role – Relies on acting ability rather than vocals.

Joey, TJ and Pablo Open to All

Character Breakdown Curtiss Gang (Joey, TJ, Pablo)

Personality: Curtis’s 3 henchmen are a mix of goofy, tough, and clueless. Joey is the smooth-talking flirt, TJ (Curtis’s nephew) is not the sharpest tool in the box, and Pablo is the silent, intimidating one.

Character Arc: They remain loyal to Curtis but provide comedic moments throughout the show.

Stage Presence: These roles are a mix of comedy and villainy. The actors need to be comfortable with physical comedy, comedic banter, and group harmonies.

What We’re Looking For:
✔ Comedic timing – Each character has their own unique humour.
✔ Good singers – Must handle group harmonies and solos.
✔ Strong character performers – Need to fully commit to their personalities.

Mother Superior Open to All

Character Breakdown Mother Superior

Personality: Strong-willed, traditional, and deeply devoted to her faith, Mother Superior is the head of the convent. She is firm in her beliefs, protective of her sisters, and initially resistant to Deloris’s influence, fearing that she will disrupt the convent’s way of life.

Character Arc: Over the course of the show, she learns to embrace change and accept that joy, music, and faith can all exist together.

Stage Presence: This role requires an actor with authority, warmth, and strong vocals. The performer must be able to deliver dramatic moments and dry humor while maintaining the character’s serious nature.

What We’re Looking For:

Character Breakdown Mary Robert

Personality: Shy, soft-spoken, and full of heart, Mary Robert is the youngest nun in the convent. She starts out timid and unsure of herself but, through Deloris’s influence, discovers her voice and confidence.

Character Arc: Mary Robert’s journey from quiet observer to fearless singer is one of the most powerful in the show.

Stage Presence: This role requires a strong singer with a big vocal range and an ability to show emotional growth. The performer must convincingly transition from timid to confident, delivering one of the show’s most heartfelt moments.

What We’re Looking For:
✔ Strong vocal ability – Needs a clear, powerful voice with a strong belt.
✔ Emotional depth – Must show growth from shy and hesitant to bold and brave.
✔ Ability to connect with the audience – The audience must root for her transformation.

Character Breakdown – Monsignor O’Hara

Personality: Monsignor O’Hara is a kind-hearted, well-meaning, and enthusiastic priest who oversees the convent. He is deeply committed to his faith but also open-minded and supportive, especially when it comes to Deloris’s influence on the choir. Unlike Mother Superior, he sees the potential in change and excitement, embracing the joy that Deloris brings to the convent.

Character Arc: Throughout the show, Monsignor O’Hara grows from a reserved and traditional priest to a joyful and spirited leader who fully embraces the lively transformation of the convent’s choir. His encouragement helps the nuns find confidence in themselves and their music.

Stage Presence: This role requires a charismatic performer with strong acting skills and warm stage presence. Monsignor O’Hara is a calming and uplifting presence in the show, providing comic relief while also grounding key emotional moments.

Character Breakdown

Personality: Sister Mary Patrick is bubbly, excitable, and full of joy. She is the most cheerful and enthusiastic nun in the convent, always seeing the bright side of any situation. Her boundless energy and optimism make her one of the most lovable and comedic characters in the show. She immediately embraces Deloris and is thrilled about the changes she brings to the choir.

Character Arc: Mary Patrick doesn’t change much throughout the show—she is consistently upbeat, loving, and open to new experiences—but her pure enthusiasm helps bring joy to the other nuns and makes Deloris feel welcome in the convent.

Stage Presence: This role requires a high-energy performer with strong comedic instincts. The actor must be comfortable with big facial expressions, physical humor, and delivering lines with genuine excitement. This role is perfect for someone who loves making people laugh and has great stage presence.

Stage Presence: This role is all about comedic timing. The performer must be comfortable delivering dry humor and handling character singing.
