Are You Resting and Recharging?
20 Aug 2021
In a fortnight’s time it will be the end of August, and we will be thinking of getting back to school!
As a busy parent, I know what anxiety that may bring to a lot of people reading this blog. I’ve managed to get some R&R with my family, touring Scotland in a camper-van, drinking plenty of tea – something I love doing, perfect! It wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t set that goal months ago, and planned it!
If you’re a parent, you may be loving your time off from the school run and the quality time you are spending with your children making some precious memories and enjoying adventures. If you’re a teacher you may have had chance to switch off from the chaos the last 18 months has brought into your life. Either way, the Summer holidays bring change, yet another transition. Coming out of it may not be as easy as you think.
If you could wave a magic wand, what would that first week back look like?
How do you want it to feel?
Maybe it’s time to make some plans so we can live the life we want to choose, instead of being pushed around and dictated to by the stresses and strains of more chaos. Being organised doesn’t have to be scary, it can be quite relaxing and satisfying.
Enjoy the next 2 weeks, designing the life you want to live.
Have fun!
As a Coach, I help people achieve their goals. I work with the teams within Take Part and teams within other schools, as well as helping parents. As a qualified School Business Manager, Coach and ex-professional Cheerleader, I’m here to help you do you, whether it be a personal goal or a work related goal. I’m a change-maker, and your very own cheerleader!
Goal-setting isn’t easy. But as we head back into another new ‘normal’ it’s a good time to set some goals for the year ahead, and make a start whilst we’re rested and relaxed.
Start now.
Start today.
Start because you can.
Start small.
Start to prioritise you.
Just start!
Making plans can be fun, and exciting! Coaching is about focusing on what the Coachee wants. So, if I’m in the Coach, and you’re the Coachee, my question to you is
What do you really want your life to look like?
Now what you need to decide is what do you want to achieve in the short, medium and long term?
Awareness matters when you’re planning your goals to create the future you want. If you want to be more organised, we need a plan to adopt some new habits. If you want to be fitter, then we need a plan how to move forward and achieve some realistic goals.
I’ve made a new fitness plan whilst I’ve been away;
- to exercise for 60 minutes every day
- to clock up 10,000 steps every day
- to burn 500kcal every day
They’re Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound goals. They’re SMART goals.
It’s all in the planning, it doesn’t happen itself. What does your new identity look like? Make a plan to achieve it – set some SMART goals!
Now we have a plan, we need action! Having a plan isn’t enough, we need to move forward to achieve the goal. Instant gratification of a small goal is great, but if you really want to make some changes we need to find a solution to change our lifestyle habits. Our past will effect our future if we don’t make some changes.
We don’t have to be our past, we evolve over time. What once suited your lifestyle might not anymore, you may have outgrown it. Maybe it’s time to ask yourself:
What do you stand for now?
So, how do we go about unwrapping our potential, and taking part in the life we want to live? How do we be the best version of ourselves?
- We decide on a goal
- We evaluate the reality
- We analyse the options
- We plan the way forward
Sometimes we have to re-evaluate and adjust our course, and that’s fine. Before you know it, you will strike gold and you will be living the life you want to live… in a calm and relaxed way.
